A Note from the Principal (Vicky White):
What a great start to the school year! We appreciate all you do to help our students be “school-ready”... including getting plenty of sleep, arriving at school on time, being prepared with all necessary materials, and encouraging engagement, cooperation, and effort in the classroom. We also welcome families to communicate often with teachers and school personnel. We recognize that it takes us all working together and supporting each other in order to provide the best school experience for our precious students. We love our RES Families! Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you at any point this school year! vwhite@campbell.k12.va.us
A Note from the Secretary/Attendance Clerk (Robin Elliott):
Research shows that good school attendance has a positive impact on children’s academic success. Let’s work hard this year to keep absences at a minimum! Please be mindful of the number of late arrivals and early dismissals your child accrues, as well… every minute counts!
How do I report my students' absence? What is the school's attendance policy?
· For any absence, please Dojo or email your child’s teacher. This must be communicated within 48 hours to excuse an absence. If your student has an appointment, please send in the note from the physician's office. Any attendance questions or concerns please contact Robin Elliott. 434-332-5215 or relliott@campbell.k12.va.us
· After 3 unexcused absences, a letter will be sent home, requesting notes to be sent to school, explaining the reason for any future absences.
· After 5 unexcused absences, a letter will be sent home, requesting a parent conference. A conference form will be completed and kept on file.
· After 10 total absences, excused and/or unexcused, a doctor’s note will be required for any additional absences.
Student Recognition at RES:
We are so proud of our Bulldogs, and we look for opportunities to recognize students for “a job well done”! Each student is given a lanyard that they will keep at school, and each recognition will be represented with a pin. So many students have quite a pin collection already! Here are the many ways we will celebrate our students this school year:
At the end of each grading period, students will be recognized for success/growth in reading, math, and content areas.
At the end of each grading period, students will also be recognized for good attendance (2 or fewer absences) and perfect attendance! In addition to receiving a pin for his or her lanyard, each student with GOOD and PERFECT attendance will be eligible to enter a drawing for an awesome GIFT CARD! Those with PERFECT attendance will have a special lunchtime in an area of the building that will be named “The Dugout”!
Each month, the Kiwanis Club helps RES celebrate students with awesome character! The Terrific Kids Award is given based on the Character Strong theme that is the focus of the month.
On Tuesdays, we showcase students (and faculty and staff) demonstrating a unique talent that makes them special. These talents can include sports, art, singing, joke telling, dancing, creating, playing musical instruments, etc! We can’t wait to see our Bulldogs shine!
A Note from the Title I Team (Krista Miller & Kristin Williams):
Starting September 1, RES will be participating in “Sparky’s Reading Program” which has been thoughtfully put together by Central Virginia Orthodontics and Liberty University. The goal of this program is to get students in Pre-K to 5th grade to read more during the school year and earn prizes while doing so! We LOVE a good reading incentive!
Students in Pre-K through 3rd grade:
Reading Goals: • 5 books for the first goal • 7 books for the second goal
Rewards: • If the first goal is met, students will be entered to win a signed football by Coach Chadwell • If the second goal is met, students will receive 1 student ticket + 2 guest tickets to the 11/23 football game (digital tickets)
Students in 4th and 5th grade:
Reading Goals: • 3 books for the first goal • 4 books for the second goal
Rewards: • If the first goal is met, students will be entered to win a signed football by Coach Chadwell • If the second goal is met, students will receive 1 student ticket + 2 guest tickets to the 11/23 football game (digital tickets)
As your child achieves their reading goals, please fill out the bookmark (Either on this link or sent home by your child’s teacher) with the titles, numbers of pages and dates finished for each book. All bookmarks need to be completed and turned into teachers by the due date: September 30th, 2024.
Please help promote literacy throughout RES and encourage your child to participate in this year’s “Sparky’s Reading Program”!
A Note from the School Counselor (Lisa Lowes):
Character Strong - This school year, RES will continue to use our Character Strong curriculum. This program is designed to teach social skills, conflict resolution, executive functioning, and emotional regulation. Each month we will have a different school-wide character theme that will be included in the Bulldog Bulletin. There will be a strong emphasis on getting back to the basics of Kindness and Empathy. September’s Character Strong Theme is Responsibility!
Responsibility is taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.
Please help spread the word by talking with your child about what it means to be responsible at home, at school, and in the community.
Food Bags - We are once again partnering with Food For Thought to provide weekend food bags to families. Please feel free to contact me if your family is in need or are interested in being involved in the program or have any questions at lisa.lowes@campbell.k12.va.us
I look forward to a wonderful school year here at RES! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can be of assistance to your child or your family.
A Note From the SRO (Samantha Earhart):
Safety Drills - We recognize how important it is for a school to be safe and prepared for any crisis we might face! With that being said, we will practice a number of drills throughout the school year, including Lockdown and Fire Drills. Please reiterate to your child(ren) the importance of these drills and the need to take them seriously, but not to let them be frightening. During an active drill, we will always place a sign on the door. If, by chance, you come to school during that time, please return to your vehicle until the drill is completed and the sign removed.
Car Rider Line - Thanks to those of you who have been consistent with lining up tightly during drop off and pick up times! As a reminder to all, following the car rider rule of pulling up close to the car in front of you prevents the line from backing up on Village Highway. Backed up traffic creates a safety issue and is a hassle for all drivers. We are always looking to improve safety, so as better practices and solutions are developed, we will share them with you.
A Note From the School Nurse (Paula Hunter):
Welcome back, RES Family! It has been so nice to see everyone back for the start of a great 2024-2025 school year. Just as a reminder, if you get a call from me, most of the time it is just to let you know your student has made a clinic visit, as I always want parents to know if a student comes to the clinic with a concern, complaint, or an injury. Normally, I won't ask you to pick him or her up, unless there is a valid reason. We really want them to be in class as much as possible, engaged and learning.
We are so happy to have the Lions Club coming in September to assist with the 3rd grade hearing and vision screenings. They are such a help to the community!
Please make sure your students are up-to-date on all vaccines. This helps keep everyone safe and healthy. If you are unsure about your student's vaccination status, please call your doctor's office, or I may be able to help you. You are welcome to call, email, or come see me in the clinic! phunter@campbell.k12.va.us
Let's get this new year off to a safe and healthy start. Go, RES!
A Note from the School Psychologist (Debi Cheek):
Hello RES Bulldog Nation!
I am excited to be entering my 6th year at RES and 31st year with CCPS! As the school psychologist for RES, I am dedicated to supporting the academic achievement, positive behavior, and social-emotional wellness of our students. Student success is a team effort. We all have to do our part. Below are a few pointers to help your child SOAR this year like a grand slam!
S – Sleep; Make sure your child gets an adequate amount of sleep each night. It is recommended that
elementary age children get 9-12 hours a night.
O – Office, Provide a quiet “office” space for your child to complete homework, away from distractions.
A – Attendance; Consistent attendance is crucial for academic success.
R – Routine; Children thrive on structure and routine. Try to have a set schedule in the evening for free time, dinner, homework, and bedtime.
Together, we can make this a great year of learning, bonding, and growing! It’s time to SOAR!
